About Becci

When you listen to your body, you eavesdrop on the mind of the universe.

Emergence

One of the most satisfying things about choreography is the process of figuring out what goes where and when. There is often a feeling of utter chaos that gives way to exquisite order and certainty if you stay with it. I’ve come to think of it as a delightful process inviting a combination of intuition and cognition, a “cognintuitive” event. It’s how something emerges out of nothing.

I had no idea how valuable this skill would be to my practice as a Feldenkrais Method® practitioner. There is no script, no protocol for working with the complexities of the human nervous system. A herniated disc, a torn ligament, a stroke are ways of describing conditions that profoundly affect the motion and vitality of a person. As a somatic practitioner, my job is to help each individual move in the direction of what is most meaningful and whole in the moment.

What foundation can we create? How do we build on it to make a map for resilience and recovery? We move and pay attention. I have dedicated more than half of my life to the study of embodied motion. Pursuing the paradox of presence and transcendence, first as a dancer and performer, and now as a teacher and guide for my students. I’ve been teaching Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® classes since 1989 and have had the privilege of helping gardeners, librarians, researchers, dancers, developers, musicians, executives and dog trainers (to name a few) engage in the dance of life and do what they love without a further sacrifice of flesh.

In private practice since 1991, I am also a mentor to colleagues and new practitioners. I remain connected to the Seattle dance community through my classes at Cornish College of the Arts (Adjunct Faculty 1996-2019) and guest teaching in the Dance Department at the University of Washington. I offer a range of public classes, workshops, individual, and corporate consultations in the Feldenkrais Method, Exquisite Rest: Sleep and Stress Resilience and the Sounder Sleep System®.
